COVID 19 UPDATE: |
In an effort to follow AVMA & CDC safety protocols, social distancing, and limiting face to face interactions, our doors will continue to be locked to the public until further notice. This being said, we are now able to schedule "Non-essential" appointments via telemedicine and car side appointments only.
We are happy to schedule an appointment for established clients as soon as we can for you, please call or email us to set up (an) appointment(s) as necessary. We are still open to receive calls if you have questions, or need to pick up any medications (including heart worm/ flea & tick prevention). Please call ahead for needed medications (1 day in advance AT LEAST is preferred). Again, please call us when you are here, and we will bring your supplies out to you. We are still having telemedicine visits as much as possible, and hope you are staying safe and happy. If you call us for a refill or a pick up, PLEASE be patient with us, as we are experiencing a much higher volume of calls from both telemedicine and appointments. If you do have an appointment with us, please call us when you are safely parked in the parking lot, we will get to you in the order you were received, and if you are unable to get thru, please try again, if you are on hold, please wait for the next available person to answer. We will take down your information and any questions you have regarding your pet's visit at this time, then a veterinary assistant will be out to receive your pet and be your liaison in your pets appointment. Our altered hours are as follows until further notice: Monday 8am-5pm Tuesday 8am-5pm Wednesday Closed Thursday 8am-5pm Friday 8am-5pm Saturday 9am- noon Sunday Closed |
Heartworm season temporary changes:By recent order from the State of Michigan (executive order 2020-34), We are currently restricted to provide only emergency services for our patients until further notice. This means that it is unlikely that heart worm testing will be possible before considerable mosquito activity begins.Since we do not know when scheduling for heart worm testing will be permitted again, we are giving some of our clients the option to refill their heart worm prevention without a test. We realize this goes against all the current recommendations in place from governing veterinary medical and parasitology associations, however these are highly unusual times that we are in.
If you have given your dog heart worm prevention for at least 6 months in 2019, or if you’ve been giving preventative year round without interruption, you can purchase additional heart worm prevention through our office without a 2020 heart worm test. If you had a puppy that we started on heart worm preventative at some point in 2019 and prevention was continued through December, the refill option also applies to them. If your dog had intermittent doses of prevention totaling <6 months in 2019, they are not eligible for this refill option. The reason for this is because if heart worm prevention is given to a dog with a significant heart worm burden it can make the dog sick or even kill the dog. Before this year, If your dog had a heart worm test yearly AND you purchased your prevention from a veterinarian, the companies that manufacture the preventative would cover all the cost of treatment if your dog developed heart worms. Now that heart worm testing is considered a nonessential service by the state and they are not allowing us to schedule these appointments by penalty of a misdemeanor, the manufacturers have changed their position. Elanco, who makes Interceptor/ Interceptor Plus, says they’ll still honor the guarantee WITHOUT A 2020 TEST IF the dog is on preventative year round. Merial/ Boehninger Ingelheim, who make Heartgard Plus, says that they probably will still honor it, but they will review each patient on a case by case basis. Hopefully this situation will not be long lasting. We apologize for any inconvenience the causes for you, our valued clients. |
